About River Yar Boat Yard

The boatyard has been home to many ‘firsts’ including building of Crusader Power Boats, a Class 1 & a Class 2 Offshore Powerboat Team, the development of inversion protection engines for rescue work in the North Sea oilfields and the “Yarmouth Traveller” allowing secure access to deep water moorings.

Roger Allen the owner has been involved in boats since a teenager, starting work on the Thames, becoming Offshore Powerboat Champion back in the late Seventies and continues to enjoy boating latterly with his partner Linda Preece both in the UK and further afield. Their cruising adventures have given them a first hand insight into the requirements of the boat user.

Recently Roger’s son Jamie has taken a more ‘front seat’ role in the running of the boatyard. Jamie works in the yard and runs the office drawing on his experience working at Darthaven marina in Dartmouth, his degree in Marine Composite Engineering and his up bringing in the marine environment. Jamie looks forward to welcoming customers both old and new to River Yar Boatyard.

We have walk ashore moorings for vessels up to 20 metres. We also offer mudberths and storage ashore, both short and long term. Dry sailing packages are also available.

The slipway is operated with the benefit of new boat moving equipment purchased in 2010. The first of its kind in the UK, the ‘Parklev’ is a French design used in over 70 marinas worldwide and nicknamed ‘Le Gentil’ and it has certainly lived up to this name.

There are also full boatyard facilities available on site.
